A Little Bit About Me.
Hi, My name is John Disney and I was born in Derby, England.
I got the snooker bug at the late age of 18 years old and after a lot of practice I was knocking in a few 100 breaks and found myself a couple of sponsors to push my passion further. I went around the country playing in Pro-Am and amateur tournaments to gain more experience. At the age of 32 (1992) I was sponsored to play on the professional circuit. I went to all the qualifying tournaments at Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool. After coming up against the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Williams it soon became apparent that I did not have the mental ability to keep up with these youngsters starting out. I made the difficult decision to give up the game and gave my cue to a young man I used to coach.
I was dragged back into the game in 2004 when I was offered ownership of Neptune Snooker Club in Ipswich. Unfortunately due to government legislation, change in gambling laws and the smoking ban I had to shut the club in 2009 and came out to Thailand to Teach English after a job offer from my current employer.
I started to play a little bit of Pool before I came to Bangkok, but now that is all I play. Snooker and Pool has given me a lot of pleasure (and frustration) for over 40 years and now I have decided to give a little back to the sport by giving people the opportunity to play better.
My Qualifications
I became a World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (Formerly Billiards & Snooker Control Council) qualified coach in 1988. I had to attend a 2 week course at Lilleshall National Sports Center with the then National Coach Jack Karnham. (The man responsible for the Dennis Taylor glasses).
